Who says it’s only up to the “grown-ups” to push this city towards progress? On Thursday, May 2nd, LITE Pitch Night is making its return with new plans and proposals from talented teens who want to play a part in making our Memphis better.
Heading into its fifth year of operation, LITE (Let’s Innovate Through Education) has helped over 90% of their students launch projects throughout the city. From helping up-and-coming artists reach their dreams and providing resources for women to confidently enter the male-dominated field of auto mechanics to creating a platform for local K-Pop fans to connect, LITE not only equips African-American and Latinx students with 21st-century skills to create wealth but also allows students to become changemakers in their communities.
“What does this mean for me?” you ask.
Other than the overall excitement for local youth investing in our city, LITE is leaving it up to the public to decide which ideas will receive additional funding. While 35 students will showcase the projects they’ve been working on, only eight of those will take the stage with a public pitch for a chance at receiving the money to push their plans forward. That’s where you come in. You along with a panel of judges are responsible for picking the next local, student-led entrepreneurial endeavors… no pressure!
