Now is the Time. Memphis is the Place.

A Leap of Faith & Moving Forward in 2018

This year has been an interesting year for me and I think it’s worth noting that my biggest take away has been learning to master the art of being mindful, grateful, and finding the good in all things. I think that besides graduating from college and becoming a mom, moving to another state has been one of the most challenging things that I’ve ever done in my life.

I took a leap of faith in moving here to Memphis and it has not been an easy transition. I initially struggled to find gainful employment but I’m blessed to be able to end the year as an employed resident. It felt strange to go through the year without hanging out with my friends from back home or to take my annual trip to the beach. In previous years, I was always tasked with commuting 1-2 hours from home to work and living an extremely fast paced life. However, in moving to Memphis, I have been able to slow down and literally take things “one day at a time” and this has been very beneficial for me. I have benefited from being able to view the scenery here and experiencing each season and its effect on everyday affairs.

The highlights of this year included attending Naturals In The City Expo, participating in a bar bike crawl around the Beale Street area, going to my first Grizzlies game, and seeing a live performance of the Phantom of the Opera. In addition to these things, getting the opportunity to work in education has been a great highlight of this year.

In 2018, I plan to participate in various community service activities in Memphis and in surrounding cities. So if you know of an agency that is looking for volunteers, please feel free to reach out to me with their contact information. I look forward to attending Memphis in May, taking a weekend getaway trip to New Orleans, traveling to Nashville and to Chattanooga to visit various landmarks, and attending mixers and networking events in Memphis. One awesome thing that I am ultimately looking forward to in 2018 is becoming a second time mom. I am due in April 2018 and I look forward to welcoming my baby girl into this world. Therefore, I’ll be looking for more family friendly things to do in the new year. I am happy to close this year and I’m even more blessed to be able to start with a new day.

What else am I up to? Keep up with my Year One adventures here.
