The Piano Man is returning to Memphis in just a few short weeks, and to celebrate, the Memphis venue where he made his first appearance is honoring him with a full day of festivities. On March 25th Lafayette’s Music Room will host Billy Joel Day, to honor the man who made his Memphis debut there in 1974.
Schedule for the day:
- From 10am to 2pm Chris Jarman and 98.1 The Max will broadcast live as part of their “Liquid Lunch” series. Memphians who eat at Lafayette’s during this time will be entered to win free tickets to the Billy Joel concert at FedEx Forum that night. Winners will be drawn at 2pm and must be present to win.
- From 2pm-6:30pm, there will be a pre-party showing historic Billy Joel concert footage on Lafayette’s 12 foot HD projector on stage.
- Starting at 6:30pm, Lafayette’s will begin their night time music lineup as Heath and Danny kick off the night with their acoustic melodies.
- At 10pm Ghost Town Blues Band will play their upbeat blues, rock, and improvisational jams as a homage to Billy Joel.
Lafayette’s will also feature a special menu all day including wood-fired pizzas, an Uptown Girl cocktail, wine specials, and more.
“One artist that people remember most from Lafayette’s past is Billy Joel,” explains Jordan Walker, General Manager of Lafayette’s Music Room, “He was something of an unknown back then, but catching him in concert was a life-changing experience for Memphians of a certain age. Having Billy Joel back in town for one of his few U.S. tour dates is a reminder of how great The Square was in its heyday, as well as how great it is once again. At Lafayette’s, we’re proud to say we are the place where legends are.”
During his 2015-2016 tour, Billy Joel is only making one stop in the Southeast United States, right here in Memphis, TN.
