The Preschool Three (K3) teacher is responsible for caring for and nurturing children as they increase their development and knowledge. Children at this age are generally three years old through four years of age. Their energy levels change with sensory input. They are interested in learning through exploration, repetition, and experiencing independence with new motor and cognitive skills. Most of the children are toilet trained but a few may still need pull-ups or diaper changing. The teachers at this age group should expect to: spend time on the floor, change diapers, patiently toilet train, respond with love and tenderness to the child’s big emotions, join in big body movements in athletic or outdoor play, sing and dance with children, and remain flexible with activities. This age group requires energy, patience, and routine; the student’s social and emotional development increases with the routines and structures the teachers put in place.
