POSITION TITLE: Education Programs Associate
SUPERVISOR: Director of Education and Youth Development
START DATE: January 2025
STATUS: Full Time, Exempt
SALARY: $45-55,000 annually
SUMMARY:
As a member of the Soulsville Foundation team, the Education Programs Associate will contribute to the ongoing evolution of the organization as a collaborative site focused on Stax Records history and arts enhanced education.
This role is charged with coordinating both guided and self-guided tour experiences at the Stax Museum, facilitating youth development initiatives in partnership with the Stax Music Academy and The Soulsville Charter
School, and maintaining an annual series of regular youth and community program offerings for the full Soulsville campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and deliver instruction for Education and Youth Development programs for Soulsville Foundation that include regular workshops and classes at Stax Music Academy, tours for student groups from schools &afterschool programs at the Stax Museum, and monthly activities at Stax Museum’s Family Day for youth thatpromote character development and provide opportunities for social emotional learning (SEL).
- Provide robust administrative support to key Education and Youth Development programs, workshops, off site learning opportunities, and fellowships, including a new initiative to mentor future leaders and build their exposure to a variety of viable arts and music careers.
- Collaborate with Stax Music Academy and Stax Museum staff to support event logistics for student relatedactivities and select special events; work with The Soulsville Charter School staff and teachers as opportunities for collaboration arise.
- Assist the department in building and maintaining a diverse community of practice including MSCS educators and other regional schools, after-school programs, and other youth serving organizations; sharing learning opportunities for students and the community.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Director of Education and Youth Development or other leadership staff.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in youth development, arts education, community programs, or related fields. Minimum five years of relevant experience in youth programs, community engagement, school settings, or other arts/humanities organizations, or other experience facilitating programming and learning opportunities for K-12 students.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Requires PC or MacBook skills; proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, aptitude and willingness to learn new software and app platforms through hands-on use and self-study.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Intellectually curious individual who proactively expands their content knowledge to create engaging student experiences and drive their ongoing professional growth; familiarity with and passion for soul music is a plus
- Strong sense of protocol, tact, and professionalism; able to prioritize multiple complex tasks and deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; adept at connecting with diverse audiences and communities and providing strong customer service
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends for special events, concerts, student showcases, etc.
- Familiarity with the basic components of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and ability to model accordingly; emotional intelligence that guides healthy work habits, including self-awareness, cultural competence and sensitivity.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Physical requirements include ability to sit for extended periods at a desk and at meetings, standing, climbingstairs, walking, mental pressure; lifting files, boxes, suitcases, etc., weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Fast-paced museum and youth development environment with some travel to local locations, events, etc.
