ADA/Leave Coordinator

Position Summary
Works under the direction of the Director of Human Resources and is responsible with coordinating the administration of disability and leave absence management including Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other Shelby County Government disability and leave plans.

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

 

Minimum Qualifications
1. Four (4) years of experience working with leave absence management process in an administrative capacity, or coordinating special projects in a Human Resources environment, with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience with emphasis in ADA, FML and employee leave absence management; AND

2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, management, human resources or closely related field; OR

3. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

4. Juris Doctorate preferred but not required.

5. CEBS, CLMS or SHRM Certifications are preferred, but not required.

6. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

 

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Coordinates and manages daily administration of the disability and leave plans, internal and external policies and procedures related to local, state and federal regulations.

2. Advises managers and employees on the interaction of applicable leave laws and internal policies for ADA, FML, paid parental leave, short-term disability, long-term disability, temporary disability leave and/or future County leave programs.

3. Facilitates and determines reasonable accommodation requests while ensuring compliance with accessibility requirements under Title I, II and VII of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

4. Ensures accurate and timely communication occurs regarding accommodations and leave absence management with employees, departments and third-party administrators.

5. Partners with County Attorneys, HR Advisors and management related to compliance and legal protections under applicable local, state and federal laws.

6. Advises and assists employees and management on matters relating to accommodations, disability and leave absence management, escalating to the Director of HR, Deputy Administrator and HR Advisors as needed.

7. Maintains complete and accurate records of disability and accommodation requests, documents approvals, denials, issues and resolution of each with specified legal requirements.

8. Partners with IT and third-party administrators to resolve system related issues and provide suggestions for improvement.

9. Drafts and/or recommends revisions to company leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.

10. Oversees the leave absence management, conducts training sessions and presents information to Director of HR, Deputy Administrator and HR Advisors.

11. Serves as the primary contact to relevant state and federal agencies.

12. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

 

KSAs
1. Extensive knowledge of the principles, concepts and methodology of Shelby County programs and practices.

2. Extensive knowledge of the accommodations, leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA and other applicable local, state and federal laws.

3. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

5. Knowledge and skills to analyze facts, identify problems, make conclusions and recommend or take appropriate action.

6. Thorough knowledge of organization and personnel management techniques.

 

Special Requirements
1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license and secure one upon date of employment.

2. Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.

3. Must be able to travel to other Shelby County Government site locations.
