Officers specialize in the development and execution of innovative marketing and fundraising plans to achieve sustainability goals for the organization. They hold each other accountable, and their roles are central to fundraising, community engagement, and community awareness, including knowledge of industry trends; some also supervise staff. They possess an in-depth understanding of current and past donor behaviors and marketing and fundraising appeal performance, while always looking for opportunities to engage new prospective donors or communicate in innovative ways.
Position summary
The Interfaith Officer manages, develops, and supports MIFA’s relationships with inter-faith communities of faith and groups, and represents MIFA’s interfaith history and presence in the community.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Four years’ senior leadership experience in an Interfaith, Non-Profit or Community Outreach capacity.
• Two years’ experience in fundraising utilizing the basic components of fundraising.
• Proficient operating communication systems (computers, email, telephone software, scanners, etc.), Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and webmaster operations. Open to learning new systems i.e.., Raiser’s Edge
• Ability to work some weekends and holidays
Major responsibilities and related tasks
Develop and steward relationships and collaborate with area faith organizations including congregations and groups.
• Provide opportunities for diverse faith communities to participate in projects and partnerships which will strengthen MIFA’s vision of uniting the community through service.
• Engage in activities with faith leaders and organizations to develop relationships and foster partnerships.
• Partner with MIFA Communications team to increase public awareness of our interfaith history, initiatives, and partnerships through MIFA internal and external publications (MIFA Minute, Hope in Action, MIFA Matters etc.) and communications resources.
Develop and implement a plan for congregational relations to achieve the annual fundraising goal
• Facilitate face to face visits with clergy and key congregational leaders.
• coordinate with Development and Engagement teams to assure timely and thoughtful gift acknowledgements within a week of gift acceptance;
• Create special, targeted appeals for congregations and faith groups.
• Coordinate the completion of grants for faith prospects
Serve as a liaison to both internal and external constituencies of MIFA
• Provide content clarifying and educating communities, both internally and externally, of MIFA’s distinct advocacy and engagement role as an interfaith vs a faith-based organization i.e., Center for Community
• Facilitate MIFA Board IF Sub-Committee to further expand, convene and engage the larger faith community
• Represent MIFA on external partner organizations i.e.., Downtown Church Associations, the Memphis Islamic Center Annual Interfaith Panel, MICAH (Memphis Interfaith Coalition for Action & Hope),
• Provide guided tours and/or overview of MIFA History to individuals and groups
Convene community initiatives that promote inter-faith best practices and that reflect MIFA’s diverse community of clients, volunteers, donors and staff.

• Ability to quickly engage and cultivate relationships with a diverse base of volunteers and groups.
• Ability to use various databases and social networking skills to communicate with a myriad of volunteers and visitors.
• Proven leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, agendas, and deadlines, while valuing individual initiative and ability.
• Ability to welcome all people and communicate with highly diverse groups with sensitivity to civic and cultural issues.
• Strategic and creative thinker with an entrepreneurial perspective to balance humanitarian goals.
• Good verbal and written communications skills including the ability to communicate with the public in person and by telephone.
• Ability to handle client and donor information confidentially and discreetly.
• Other duties assigned to meet goals of the department.
