Job Title/Position: Development Officer

General Description: Memphis Theological Seminary seeks an enthusiastic Development Officer to develop and cultivate donor relationships and solicit donations for the seminary’s annual fund, endowments, and other designated funds. The development officer will maintain relationships with executive-level administrators, government officials, donors/prospects, alums, advancement staff, and other constituents with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality, in addition to developing a donor pipeline and cultivating new supporters of the seminary.

A bachelor’s degree and at least two years of development or related experience are required. Higher Education fundraising experience is preferred. This position requires travel within the United States. Salary is $60,000/year plus benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

●       Identify, cultivate, and solicit donors for the seminary’s annual fund, endowments, and other designated funds.

●       Prepare briefings, gift agreements, and other correspondence for prospects, collaborating with the Office of the President.

●       Recruit and cultivate annual fundraising volunteers to leverage volunteer relationships to expand the scope of the seminary’s annual fundraising efforts.

●       Manage prospect and volunteer activity using the advancement database and associated reporting tools, ensuring that data entered is entered promptly and accurately.

●       Maintain in-depth knowledge of the seminary’s fundraising priorities, including academic and other programs and general operations.

●       Assist with the planning and execution of the Annual Fundraising Plan.

●       Assist with special fundraising projects and events under the guidance of the Office of the President.

●       Assistance with/collaboration on planning of fundraising materials with Marketing & Communications staff

●       The position may occasionally require evening and weekend hours.

●       Perform other tasks as needed regarding the work of Advancement.

 

Specific Knowledge and Skills:

●       Functional knowledge/familiarity with complex giving vehicles.

●       Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication skills.

●       Familiarity with theological education and an appreciation of church life

●       Experience using administrative software like Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, in addition to nonprofit and fundraising programs like eTapestry and Blackbaud (or an eagerness to learn).
