The Director of Development works closely with the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul, Inc. Executive Director, staff and the Board of Directors to identify grants, sponsorships, fund-raising events and individual donations to support the work, mission, programming and long-range financial strategies for the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, the Memphis Music Hall of Fame Museum, and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and their future.
The Director of Development is responsible for fundraising planning, management, solicitations and implementation for the organization.
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul, Inc. is a 23-year old 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and tell the story of Memphis music and perpetuate its legacy. We fulfill our mission through the operation of two museums, the administration of the Memphis Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, and organization programming. Recent strategic planning may greatly increase current programming and may require active and visionary fund-raising toward those goals and the development of new constituent support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work with the Executive Director and board development committee to develop and implement strategies for the solicitation of all grants, programming and event sponsorships, major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events and capital campaigns;
Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them:
Design, develop and administer a system for acknowledging and recognizing all gifts and grants. Ensure distribution of donor benefits in a timely way, while maintaining accurate records and fulfillment;
Develop and maintain a CRM database of funders, donors, prospects and contacts ensuring accurate records and reporting. Might include identifying and maintaining appropriate donor software as approved by the Executive Director;
Work closely and collaboratively with the Executive Director to develop and distribute unique, creative fundraising materials that create excitement and visibility for the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, the Memphis Music Hall of Fame and its programs;
Develop and analyze fundraising data to ensure timely progress towards annual fundraising goals;
Research, write and submit grant applications and reports for local and national foundations, government agencies and corporations, and manage grant administration and deadlines;
Work with the Executive Director to strategize, plan and execute fund-raising events which assist development efforts and grow a community of engaged supporters;
Provide fundraising reports to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors;
Make public appearances, accept speaking engagements to share information about Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul, Inc. with the community;
Perform other related duties as requested;
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
At least 3 years experience in fundraising for a non-profit organization, preferably in a performing arts or cultural institution;
Proven ability to be a self-starter and goal driven to generate new funding opportunities while simultaneously stewarding and growing established relationships; excellent follow through;
Superior writing and communication skills with demonstrated success in grant and proposal writing;
Experience and successful track record in identifying, developing and soliciting individual, patron, corporate and foundation relationships;
A professional and resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative and simultaneously manage multiple tasks and projects;
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment;
Strong presentation, strategic thinking and management skills with exceptional attention to detail;
Extensive computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word); previous experience with an integrated donor tracking software, such as Kindful, DonorPerfect, etc.;
Ability to work full-time in a hybrid environment; and
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Minimum salary $60,000, or higher commensurate to the potential candidate’s experience. A benefits package is included.
