We are seeking a Lead Guide to join our team in July 2026. The lead guide in the early childhood environment serves as the primary educator and spiritual leader within an urban Montessori classroom for children ages 3 to 6. This role bridges Montessori pedagogy and Catholic faith formation, guiding each child toward independence, curiosity, and inner-discipline. The lead guide ensures a well-prepared environment, fosters a peaceful and inclusive community, and mentors assistant staff in alignment with the school’s mission and Montessori philosophy. In this role, you will partner with our dedicated, trained Catechist who leads all Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) instruction; no prior CGS training, knowledge, or experience is required for this position.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as a dynamic link between the child and the prepared environment, offering clear, sequential presentations across all content areas.
- Design and maintain a prepared environment that supports autonomous exploration, concentration, and joy in learning.
- Establish psychological order, structure, and consistency in the classroom to promote independence and self-regulation.
- Support social-emotional development through mindfulness activities, peaceful conflict resolution, and grace and courtesy lessons.
- Systematically observe and document each child’s progress to tailor individualized learning experiences and support development needs.
- Model respect, patience, humility, and professionalism in all interactions with children, families, and colleagues.
- Provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to the assistant guide, ensuring consistency in Montessori practices.
- Manage classroom inventories and request materials as needed. Maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Partner with families through regular communication, progress reports, education events, and conferences to support the holistic development of each child.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, spiritual enrichment opportunities, and community events.
- Nurture spiritual growth by coordinating weekly visits to the Atrium and participating in liturgical celebrations throughout the year.
Required Qualifications:
- Montessori Early Childhood Diploma
- 1+ years of experience working with children ages 3 – 6
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Criminal Background Check
- Health Screening
- Current CPR / First Aid Training or willingness to obtain
- Commitment to our unique approach to education and spirituality
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or a strong desire to work within an urban educational environment.
- Willingness to learn about the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (training not required for hire).
