Early Childhood Teacher Assistant

Purpose: To assist with the design, implementation, and teaching age-appropriate academic content appropriate for students in early childhood in accordance with the mission and values of the school.

Essential Functions:
Units of Inquiry and Instruction
●       Demonstrate depth of knowledge and passion for inquiry and Reggio Emilia methods.
●       Assist in creating engaging, purposeful lessons driven by student interest.
●       Assist in the presentation of lessons while creating learning opportunities and experiences that enable all students to acquire the knowledge and skills based on individual interests.
●       Help make material accessible to all learners and learning styles.

●       Assist the teacher with assessment methods that are appropriate for each child’s age and level of development and encompass all areas of development, including math, science, and other cognitive skills; language; social-emotional; and physical.
●       Assist the Lead Teacher with assessment methods and collecting information to design goals for individual children and monitor their progress, as well as to improve the program and its teaching strategies.

Classroom Culture
●       Cultivate trusting, caring relationships with each girl that ignites her love of learning.
●       Actively engage in warm, friendly conversations with the children and encourage and recognize children’s work and accomplishments.
●       Encourage girls to play and work together.
●       Help students resolve conflicts by identifying feelings, describing problems, and trying alternative solutions.

●       Partner with parents, colleagues, and administrators to understand each girl’s needs.
●       Prioritize professional growth through consistent participation in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service workshops, and other professional development opportunities.

●       Bachelor’s degree required.
●       Must be at least 21 years of age.
●       Previous experience with preschool age children in a formal context.
●       Knowledgeable about curriculum, research-based teaching practices, and innovative trends in the desired grade band preferred.
●       Training in the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of children and able to apply that understanding in the implementation of curriculum and instruction preferred.
●       Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage the classroom.
●       Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
