The Fire Museum of Memphis Part-time Birthday Party Manager and Clerk
Job Summary: Responsible for the setting up of the birthday party room for parties, keeping birthday boxes made up, keeping birthday inventory straight and counted, reordering inventory when needed, also will fill in on occasion as a Customer Service Clerk where responsibilities include physical opening and closing of the Museum’s Admission Desk and Gift Shop, ringing up customers, sanitization of birthday area and admissions/gift shop area. Must be available to work on Saturdays and Sundays. Must greet and pleasantly facilitate all visitors to the Museum with a happy demeanor and answer incoming phone calls. Assists with all gift shop and front desk operations and sales as needed. Should be able to learn and navigate different software programs at the front desk to assist clients with admissions or gift purchases competently and to facilitate museum members. Accuracy and attention to detail are a must. Makes sure the sales receipts balance at the end of the day and forwards end-of-day reports to the appropriate administrative personnel. You must be able to interact with the public positively, even under pressure.

Experience Required: 3 – 5 years of retail experience preferred. Special Skills: Experience with computers in support of retail sales and admission sales. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent customer relations skills – dealing with museum visitors, donors, members, volunteers, and staff. Ability to work under pressure.
Job Responsibilities:
· Once birthday parties are scheduled, set up the room for the party.
· Keep track of Birthday inventory.
· Reorder inventory as needed.
· Fill in for Customer Services Representatives when they are out sick or on vacation. This includes:
o Opens register for admissions and/or gift shop and sets up drawers for the day’s business.
o Opens the museum to visitors at the established time.
o Greets all visitors pleasantly, answers their questions and takes steps to enhance their visit to the museum.
o Greets and processes group admissions. This includes verifying the accuracy of the count and collecting payment.
o Answers incoming phone calls, forwards call and relays messages as needed.
o Sells museum memberships.
o Assists with the gift shop operations by conducting demonstrations of products, helping customers, and keeping the store and desk area clean.
o Keeps informed about special offers, discounts, promotions, and special events and informs customers of such.
o Closes the museum to visitors at the established time. Ensures that the building is empty of visitors and that all doors are locked. Sets the alarm unless other staff remains in the building.
o Assists with the museum’s special events as requested.
o Other duties as assigned.
