ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of the Community Engagement Administrator to manage the promotion and marketing of all Memphis Parks programs, classes, special events, and special projects. Conducts outreach to neighborhood associations and other neighborhood groups to engage them in programs. Coordinates with local organizations to plan community events. Conducts community needs assessments to determine areas of need in the communities served. Coordinates with the Communications department to promote community events on local media outlets.
Provides work direction, assignment of duties, evaluation of work performance, and discipline of assigned staff. Develops short- and long-term strategy plans for projects. Follows the community relations and marketing plans to engage the community in programs designed to meet the specific needs of the identified community. Manages the project delivery process, including project planning, resource allocation, risk management, and budgeting. Cultivates relationships with community members and organizations to build support for community initiatives and garner feedback for potential program partnerships.
Compiles monthly and quarterly reports tracking construction project timelines. Completes the Trust for Public Land (TPL) and National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) metric surveys annually. Designs and compiles various surveys for customer service, community needs assessments, special events feedback, and staff professional development.
Collaborates with park adopters, friend groups, community organizers, neighborhood associations, and volunteer to develop and execute community engagement strategies. Creates signage for park facilities and green spaces. Maintains a division wide special events calendar.
Plans and facilitates all Memphis Parks’ ground breakings and ribbon cuttings. Assist with production of flyers and marketing collateral for special events, classes and programs. Tracks construction project timelines to report on progress and keep the public informed. Attends meetings at various locations around the city by driving to different neighborhood associations, parks, seminars, conferences, etc. Monitors and responds to Memphis Parks’ social media platforms and in person interactions.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, copier, and telephone. Requires ability to traverse on uneven ground. Requires the ability to operate an automobile.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in an office environment. May be exposed to outside weather conditions. Requires frequent travel to various sites throughout the city.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Business Administration or a related field and seven (7) years’ professional experience in communications and community development with five (5) of the seven (7) years in supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment. Working experience with various social media outlets preferred.
