Southern College of Optometry, one of the nation’s leading schools of optometric education located in Memphis, TN is recruiting for a HVAC Controls Technician.
This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining commercial mechanical systems on the campus. Accurate record-keeping and preventative maintenance are required.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
· Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctioning heating, air conditioning and refrigeration units, split systems, air handling units, and ductless systems to determine the cause of the malfunction.
· Performs scheduled maintenance inspections, and adjusts, cleans and calibrates various systems to assure proper system operations.
· Repairs wiring and electronic components associated with HVAC control systems and with all physical plant electrical systems.
· Replaces expansion valves, compressors, motors, coil units and other component parts. Cleans refrigerant systems from hermetic burnouts, evacuates and charges systems. Determines cause of and corrects condensation problems.
· Checks distribution systems for proper velocity, volume, temperature, pressure, etc.
· Provides technical assistance on design of HVAC systems, including installations and modifications to existing systems.
