Aquatics Coordinator-Fitness Center

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  The Aquatics Coordinator assists in developing and implementing Aquatics programs (including The Swim School) and facilities including Dectron (heating and ventilation system), aquatics facility (pool and whirlpool) pumps and filtration system, aquatics facility chlorination system, management of chemicals for aquatics facility, pool deck and all related aquatics equipment. Additional aquatics programing will include outdoor recreation aquatics to include kayaking, rafting, boating, swimming, snorkeling, and other aquatic activities. This is an on-campus position primarily located in UT Health Science Center recreation facilities. This position may include frequent nights and weekends and may cover other positions in UTHSC Campus Recreation according to departmental needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Plans, markets, and administers a comprehensive Aquatics program to include swim lessons, clinics, standard recreational aquatic programming, water safety and emergency procedures.

2.      Conducts all pool maintenance, supervises all pool repairs and pool systems, trains, and supervises works study pool deck attendants, and aquatics instructors.

3.      Ensures collections for all aquatics classes including setting prices in consultation with leadership, receiving payments and processing all money according to UTHSC policies and procedures.

4.      Provides daily oversight of the pool deck and aids in safety and customer service in the aquatics area.

5.      Monitors patrons to ensure adherence to facility policies pertaining to the pool deck/aquatics area.

6.      Seeks and receives estimates for aquatics equipment and all aquatics facilities repairs/maintenance that are not done in-house.

7.      Evaluates and modifies program activities to remain current with the participants’ recreational interests.

8.      Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (Master’s Degree preferred) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience working in Aquatics, Outdoor Recreational Environment, or Facilities/Risk Management; OR Master’s Degree and one (1) year of experience. Must maintain Certified Pool Operator credentialing within 90 days of hire. Requires physical fitness and is demanding; in-water training. First Aid and CPR/AED certified; experience with American Red Cross or other authorized provider water safety programs and educational requirements; appropriate aquatics certifications preferred including American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard and Safety Instructor, etc., or willingness to acquire certifications in the first year of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

·         Ability to provide aquatics programming and pool maintenance including pump, filtration, chemical balances, air quality, Dectron, etc.

·         Knowledge of programming for students, faculty, staff, faculty use, activities, sports and fitness.

·         Knowledge of management and operation of recreation facilities and equipment.

·         Good written and oral communication skills.

·         Recreational and fitness knowledge.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may frequently be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
