Director, Pro Se Parents’ Clinic

POSITION SUMMARY: The Community Legal Center (“CLC”), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation located in Memphis, Tennessee, seeks a Director for its Pro Se Parents’ Clinic who demonstrates a passion for serving and advocating for lower income individuals and other vulnerable populations.  This staff attorney works under the direction of the Executive Director to conduct daily pro se clinics for parents of minor children, administer brief legal advice, help clients complete forms and parenting plans, work collaboratively with community partners, and conduct educational workshops.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs client intakes, giving brief legal advice, educating about parenting and visitation plans, and helping clients complete divorce and child support pleadings where appropriate.
Maintains records of services performed and clients served in compliance with grant requirements and CLC tracking requirements.
Mentors staff attorneys as needed.
Advises and instructs students during the U of M Law School Alternative Spring Break.
Works with community partners to serve as a resource for unmarried parents in need of legal advice.
Presents educational seminars on legal topics.
Promotes the CLC in the community.
Serves as the CLC’s pro bono coordinator, assigning pro bono cases to private attorneys and reporting pro bono hours to the Tennessee Commission on CLE.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Active member of the Tennessee Bar
Good written and verbal communication and advocacy skills
Minimum 2 years’ experience as a practicing attorney with concentration in family law.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:  Office environment; occasional evening or variable hours to attend clinics and seminars

CLASSIFICATION:  Part-Time, Exempt

SALARY RANGE:  Salary dependent on qualifications and experience.
