Test Lab Inspectors

POSITION SUMMARY: Working under general direction, primarily test setup and equipment preparation for mechanical and electrical tests and inspections as required for power transformer testing. Complete basic electric and mechanical assembly and preparation work as required.
THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Prepare hardware for power transformer for testing; prepare wire connections, prepare cable connections, mechanical assembly and prepare testing for “Safe” testing environment.
• Using available test procedures and assembly data to prepare setup, assist in testing and electrical and mechanical disassembly of each transformer unit after test completion.
• Prepare power transformer for tests; material staging and assembly per check sheet, complete needed MRP/ERP computer transactions, basic computer data entry.
• Change transformer configuration as required to complete additional/next test; read shop paperwork, drawings, mechanical/electrical assembly, staging tooling, staging parts/subassemblies, etc.
• Maintain test equipment calibration and calibration systems.
• Operate cranes, power lifts and other material moving equipment as required.
• Support and assist the Quality/Production areas as needed.
• Understand and work under the direction of the appropriate HICO policy and/or procedures.
• Know HICO’s Quality, Safety and Environmental Policies. Be able to fully discuss the importance of these policies and how they impact work.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Perform basic preventative maintenance and TPM on equipment/machines.
EDUCATION/SPECIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

• Two-year Associate’s Degree from a recognized school in electrical or related technical field plus minimum one year experience in testing or utilities or equivalent education and experience.
• Multiple years’ experience as Electrician or service technician (high voltage equipment and/or utility industry preferred)
• Developed written and verbal communication skills.
• Developed math and electrical engineering skills.
• Broad experience using inspection tools, instruments and equipment.
• Developed computer skills for entering and retrieving data.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS OF THE WORKPLACE:

• Advanced ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical technical drawings.
• Ability to inspect work
• Ability to work in normal indoor temperatures
• Ability to stand and walk 6-8 hours per day
• Ability to sit, squat, bend, stretch, and kneel frequently
• Ability to work in confined spaces and climb/stand on ladders
• Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Ability to use basic hand and power tools
• Ability to perform repetitive movements

Test Lab Supervisor-2nd Shift

POSITION SUMMARY:

Supervise test personnel performing finished product testing on high voltage power transformers, maintaining schedules, training personnel, maintaining equipment and facilities. Supervise in-process testing as needed.
THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

 

Apply quality assurance and manufacturing department procedures as appropriate to the test operation.
Supervise testing staff with emphasis on positive employee relations in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
Notify production of problems identified during test, assist in troubleshooting and assist in developing solutions.
Coordinate with production to maintain the overall schedule and meet daily/weekly/monthly deadlines
Maintain positive customer relations in executing testing operations.
Lead the test/inspection data collection and storage of the data/information.
Observe and monitor test execution to ensure process and product conformance to requirements.
Perform and/or coordinate repairs on components, assemblies, and testing equipment.
Lead test team to the successful completion of all testing while meeting the production and customer delivery schedules. Take appropriate countermeasures to assure delivery of an on-time and on-quality final product and final product test.
Lead the test hall calibration and TPM process as needed to maintain production testing and compliance with procedures.
Provide leadership, direction, support and training for test lab inspectors.
Supervise assembly of cost control and statistical data. Track daily cycle times, including setup, to provide improvement
Prepare reports on operational performance, safety, quality, costs, etc.
Lead lean quality improvement teams and meeting yearly improvement goals; communicates with the test and production team on performance to plan.
Oversees activities related to test lab inspectors including staffing, scheduling, coordinating, and planning.
Complete performance reviews for test staff.
Practice 6S and assure department adherence to all safety rules, guidelines and safe working practices.
Train, implement and sustain lean manufacturing/quality principles by actively participating and at times leading Continuous Improvement events.
Promote a culture of process control and quality excellence by providing effective leadership for problem solving, failure investigations, and implementing appropriate countermeasures. Support and make recommendations to improve company policies and procedures.

EDUCATION/SPECIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

Associates Degree in technical or business field with 3-5 years’ work experience in electrical testing in an electrical, utility, industrial and/or manufacturing setting or equivalent education and experience.
Developed supervisory skills to lead teams and meet production schedule requirements.
General knowledge of electrical power systems.
General knowledge of inspection tools, instruments and equipment.
Developed computer skills with emphasis on MS Office and business enterprise systems for entering/retrieving data, charts/graphs and some statistical analysis.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS OF THE WORKPLACE:

Ability to use office equipment and tools, such as: PC, photocopier, fax machine, test equipment, quality instruments, digital camera, etc.
Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and to use inspection tools such as tape measures, scales, levels, micrometers, calipers, etc.
Ability to operate powered equipment, such as fork truck and overhead crane.
Ability to travel to domestic and international locations.
Ability to communicate with others to complete work assignments.
Ability to analyze data and develop accompanying reports.
