The ideal candidate is a compassionate person with experience in working with preschool children and their families. The preferred candidate speaks both English and Spanish, has knowledge of their non-native language, or is willing to learn the language. This position requires the ability to work in teams, as well as perform self-directed responsibilities. The teacher’s physical proximity must relate to the child’s bodily proximity during daily activities. This includes but is not limited to floor sitting, engaging in active outdoor play, kneeling, crawling, rolling, skipping, jumping, dancing, lying in floor, standing, lifting non-walkers, bending at the waist, squatting, hugging, holding in lap, and sitting in small chairs. Teacher’s must have access to a smartphone and possess the ability to manage and use computer applications, emails, messaging systems, data collection, printing, and perform basic technology functions for program related knowledge and evaluations. The full-time position is Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm, with occasional scheduled events outside of regular school hours.
Su Casa Preschool teachers work together as a team to provide each child with a safe environment in which to develop social-emotional skills, cognitive development, and motor skills. Each class has an English speaking teacher and a Spanish speaking teacher so that the children are immersed in both languages. The teacher teams work together to implement the High Scope Curriculum through planning, teaching, evaluating, and adjusting daily activities to the interest and need of each individual child.
Schedule
- Weekly- 40 hours
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-4:00 pm, July-May (first day- July 22, 2024)
- Follows MSCS schedule
- Staff meetings are on Tuesdays, 3:15-3:45 pm.
- Other hours Su Casa Family Ministries events are required outside of the normal schedule, as noted on the calendar. (approx. 4 hours per event)
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a related field.
- In lieu of a degree, relevant experience working with children may be accepted.
- Experience with the HighScope curriculum
- In lieu of experience with HighScope, the applicant must be willing to learn and practice HighScope’s processes outside of the work hours (by reading the provided books, taking the free online quick courses, and meeting with the program facilitator).
Skills and/or Attributes
- Native speakers of English or Spanish.
- Preference given to teachers who are able to communicate in both languages.
- Comfortable working in a multilingual environment; each teacher will work directly with a co-worker who primarily speaks another language.
- Physically able to handle the demands of young children including lifting children or objects, active play time, sitting on floor, etc.
- Professional demeanor: Able to handle confidential information, communicate effectively, and respectfully
- Teachable demeanor: Flexible, willing to learn new skills, problem solver, able to prioritize task, willing to admit error and ask for help
- Servant-hearted demeanor: Actively working in a Christian environment; teachers share prayer time as a staff and with students, lead Bible classes for students, and promote a Gospel-centered focus in the classroom.
