First 8 Memphis (F8M) was founded to build an early care and education system that will allow every child in Memphis and Shelby County to reach their full potential by focusing on a strong start during a child’s first 8 years of life. We are an advocacy, coordinating and convening organization working across the birth to age eight spectrum. Our early care and education systems building work is conducted in collaboration with the F8M Leadership Council and other stakeholders; and supported by a highly regarded Board of Directors who partner with staff to help reach our community and organizational goals.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Program Associate will have the opportunity to impact the Pre-K experience for 1,600 four-year-olds in the Memphis and Shelby County community, ensuring a strong foundation for future success. In addition to completing quality monitoring instructional observations within F8M Pre-K classrooms, the Program Associate will develop quality improvement feedback and professional development to Pre-K instructional coaches, family engagement personnel, and Pre-K Directors. We are looking for someone detail-oriented, with an understanding of developmentally appropriate instruction in the Pre-K classroom and experience supporting quality program improvements. The person in this role will:

Pre-K Operator Quality Monitoring (60%)

  • Perform quality monitoring visits for all Pre-K programs/classes each semester; and provide feedback to instructional coaches
  • Provide balanced feedback that both highlights evidence-based quality teaching and learning practices and addresses gaps identified during classroom visits

Pre-K Operator Program (25%)

  • Coordinate Pre-K Operator communication and program expectations
  • Implement Pre-K Operator data collection processes and collaborative meeting goals
  • In collaboration with the Pre-K Program Manager, support monitoring of  Pre-K classroom and Operator level data to align with compliance
  • Coordinate and facilitate training and guidance to instructional coaches to include an annual orientation and quarterly Coaching Collaborative
  • Support the integration of family wraparound services, family support and family engagement best practices
  • Support and actively participate in stakeholder meetings

Data Collection, Reporting and Documentation (15%)

  • Collect and summarize observational data for continuous program improvement and required reporting
  • In collaboration with the Pre-K Program Manager, administer and monitor performance management surveys and assessments
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of classroom observations and communication with Pre-K partners, and other documentation as defined by supervisor
  • Participate in the development of agency policies and procedures, and other written documents as appropriate

Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of experience in early childhood or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, early childhood endorsement preferred
  • Preferred Pre-K instruction or coaching experience; demonstrated experience in early care and education, including teaching and/or child development pedagogy, quality classroom management, coaching or consultation, knowledge of Tennessee State Early Learning Developmental Standards, or equivalent experience or certifications acceptable

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

We are an advocacy, coordinating and convening organization working across the age spectrum and programs that support young children and their families including: home visiting, childcare, Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) and Kindergarten – 3rd grade supports. F8M’s early care and education systems building work is conducted in collaboration with the F8M Leadership Council and other stakeholders. F8M is governed by a highly regarded Board of Directors who partner with staff to help reach our community and organizational goals.

F8M recently joined the Southern Early Childhood Education Justice (SECEJ) network through the Southern Education Fund (SEF). As a participant in this network of advocates and state policy organizations, F8M has been charged with supporting the efforts to expand racial equity in the south. This work will include improving early learning opportunities for young children by advocating for early childhood policy improvements. F8M is seeking an innovative, well organized and socially conscious Part-time Associate to assist with research, data collection and policy reporting projects throughout this new initiative.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES:

The Partnerships Associate will gain valuable hands-on experience in research and program development, policy, advocacy and systems building, and administration. Project experience may include, but not limited to the following:

Research and Program Support: 

  • Conduct research on early childhood policies and legislative priorities across the SECEJ network
  • Collects current early childhood policy information across SECEJ
  • Create documentation for each data request or research project
  • Support with maintaining and updating bill tracker & dashboard
  • Analyzes data to determine trends
  • Interpret the findings and provide conclusions
  • Conducts presentations and designs ancillary visual graphics to enhance reporting

Communications: 

  • Write memos and contribute to quarterly report submitted to SEF
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings pertaining to the SEF grant
  • Assist with crafting messages for social media, newsletter, and community blog

The Partnerships Associate will likely travel a few times a year to SEF meetings. This position will work with First 8 Memphis’ Partnerships effort and will report to  the Director Partnerships or the Executive Director. This role is for one year and may be extended in out years depending on funding.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Partnership Associate must be a current student or recent graduate of a degree awarding college or university. Success in this position requires an entrepreneurial spirit, deep empathy for issues and challenges faced by children and families in Memphis and Shelby County, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and strong attention to detail.

Experience working with various Memphis and Shelby County communities, community organizations, and local officials, is strongly preferred.

Successful candidates will have proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs including Excel, PowerPoint and Word; G Suite; Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.); and basic web platforms and web browsers.

THE OPPORTUNITY
F8M seeks a collaborative relationship-oriented Senior Manager of Partnerships to help continue to build our strategic partnerships work. This role will support partner relations and fund development as we transition from being a start-up to a growth organization. The Senior Manager of Partnerships is an integral part of F8M’s growing team and organization; and will work closely with the Executive Director to implement the strategic direction for F8M’s partnership work.

Principal responsibilities include:

Collective Action and Partner Relations (60-65%) 

  • Lead and convene the F8M Leadership Council, our collective action and advocacy collaborative effort, and collaborate with F8M’s key partners, including early care and education (ECE) providers, parents, faith leaders, elected officials and others to work in accordance to our Early Childhood Plan to promote and provide high-quality ECE for children prenatal thru age eight (8) in Memphis and Shelby County.
  • Collaboratively set partnership engagement and policy and advocacy goals for the organization and ensure critical milestones towards partnership targets are met by working with organizational partners and community stakeholders to improve alignment of existing services for young children and their families.
  • Align with other local, state, and national ECE efforts. Particularly as it applies to the Bright Start TN initiative, system change and capacity building efforts.
  • Develop a budget and operating plan for Partnership initiatives across the organization.

Fund Development (10-15%) 

  • Support building the internal infrastructure for F8M’s fund development strategy.
  • Manage and support grant submissions and reporting with Contracts & Compliance Manager.

Reporting & Communications (5-10%) 

  • Prepare regular communications and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure goals and targets are tracked and benchmarked by producing accurate and timely reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Associate to develop communications that promote and advance the work of F8M.

F8M Senior Leadership (5-10%) 

  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to create and implement strategic planning at the organization level.
  • Represent F8M at local, statewide and national functions.
  • Attend Board of Directors, Board subcommittees, and Advisory Committees as assigned; liaise with Board of Directors Development and Sustainability Committee.
  • Procure, manage, and/or supervise contractors, consultants, fellows, and/or staff as needed (at a future date).

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

  • Leadership skills and experience, including managing teams and direct reports, volunteer programs or community-based initiatives involving different disciplines, experiences and interests.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail, experience with meeting facilitation, public speaking and making cogent and convincing presentations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and understanding of community needs and strategies to promote community impact.
  • Proven ability to use metrics to drive development decisions and achieve strategic objectives.

EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with building and maintaining action-oriented. partnerships including collaborative convening and movement building.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful management experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising or related fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, education, early childhood development, business/public administration or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Prefer, graduate degree in nonprofit management, education, early childhood development, business/public administration or related field.
