Now that Indie Memphis, best known for its annual Indie Memphis Film Festival, is turning 18, they are celebrating by hosting Downtown events in addition to the Midtown events.
The 18th annual Indie Memphis Film Festival will take place over eight days instead of four, from Nov. 3-10. In addition to hosting screenings and events in Overton Square, the festival will also offer programs in Downtown Memphis at the new Halloran Centre next door to the Orpheum Theater.
“We’ve received a lot of great feedback from festival goers, and one thing we kept hearing is that because so many films were shown during a short period of time, many were at the same time and that limited viewing options,” said Ryan Watt, interim Executive Director of Indie Memphis. “This year we’re doubling the number of days that we’re holding the festival, and we’re hosting events in Midtown and Downtown. We’ll be Downtown during the week, and in Midtown on the weekend.”
The festival kicks off on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at the Halloran Centre. Downtown events continue through Nov. 5, when the festival shifts location to Overton Square from Nov. 6-8. The festival wraps up back at the Halloran from Nov. 9-10.
“The Indie Memphis Film Festival is an important part of the Memphis arts culture, and we are excited to welcome several of the festival’s screenings to the new Centre,” said Orpheum President and CEO Pat Halloran. “Through the Halloran Centre, the Orpheum brand is finally able to embrace independent film in a way we’ve never been able to before – first with the Southern Circuit Tour of Filmmakers and now with Indie Memphis. We’re proud to be a part of this festival as it continues to put our community on the map as a hot spot for budding filmmakers.”
Added Watt, “We believe that festival goers will really enjoy the new offerings because the Downtown weeknight evenings will feature some of our biggest gala shows. The Halloran offers a lot of flexibility because it seats 350 and is a beautiful venue. We’re very excited about what’s ahead.”
