After an extended summer in the 901, the weather is starting to transition into the cooler seasons, bringing with it the excitement of holiday planning and events. There’s nothing that ushers in a new year like family, friends, food, and festivities, starting with Thanksgiving.
This year at Carolina Watershed, guests and friends from all over the city are invited to commune together without the stress of travel or awkward catch-up conversations with distant relatives. This year, we can all share in the true restorative quality of the holidays and create memories with those we do life with and around every single day.
Hosted by Leo Events, the 2019 Memsgiving celebration will take place at the funky downtown Watershed, where guests can enjoy live music, specialty cocktails, yard games and a unique spin on all the Thanksgiving menu favorites.
The first of many to come, this year’s event supports the Jay Uiberall Foundation, a grant-making organization that aims to empower and partner with nonprofits in the Greater Memphis area. What better way to embrace our community than to share in a cause that fuels Memphis’ future?
“A group of us were brainstorming ideas for a new type of fundraising event for the Jay Uiberall Foundation that would appeal to a younger crowd – a group that likely doesn’t know about the good works of the foundation,” said Cindy Brewer, principal at LEO events and founding board member of the Jay Uiberall Foundation. “One of the young ladies on the committee threw out the idea of a Memphis twist on Friendsgiving. Friendsgiving is a popular celebration namely among millennials who are looking to take a break from the hustle and bustle of their regularly scheduled holiday events. Their own special Thanksgiving, but just with friends—no family obligations or the craziness that often comes with family holiday gatherings.”
To celebrate the cause and the end-of-year holidays, LEO began its search for the perfect brunch spot.
“Carolina Watershed is such a unique space to hang out in, and it has a fantastic vibe—and that’s Memsgiving,” said Brewer. “A unique event designed around the idea of hanging out with your best friends over a great meal, craft cocktails, games and cool music. With its downtown location near young professional dwellers, it’s really just one big adult playground, and the ideal venue to kick off our first Memsgiving. There’s ax throwing, corn hole, cozy nooks, rocks for climbing and even a cascading waterfall. The space alone feels like a party.”
Memsgiving takes place Saturday, November 23, and guests are invited to select from three different experience options – the BFF Brunch, general admission Friend Feast, and a BFF Brunch Table.
The BFF Brunch, which kicks off at 10:30 a.m., includes a beautiful tablescape for all of the Insta-opportunities, with a V.I.P. brunch, served family-style, a choice of bottomless bloody marys or mimosas, two drink tickets, a keepsake wine cup, live entertainment, including Walrus, Josh Cosby & Jeremy Stanfill of Stary & Micey, Twin Soul and Belvedere, games, valet parking and more throughout the day. You can also reserve a spot for eight of your friends and family with a BFF Brunch Table.
If you’d rather get a later start, the Friend Feast begins at 12:30 and includes two drink tickets, a buffet ticket, live music and games. Whichever route you go, you’re guaranteed a fabulous Friendsgiving experience, with all of the Memphis flavor you could ask for.
“Memphis is a giving community, and it has so much to offer for those that find joy in giving back and being part of something new. With Memsgiving, well, here’s a specific event that’s all about friendships and celebrating how thankful we are for one another! And then, tie that back to charity, and it’s the perfect event to kick off your holiday season.”
