How Communities Unlimited Helps Small Businesses Access Capital

Across the South — from places like Memphis, Tennessee, to smaller rural towns — many entrepreneurs have the ideas, the work ethic, and the vision to build successful businesses. What they often lack is access to capital.

Communities Unlimited (CU), a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), is working to change that by helping small business owners secure the financing they need to start, stabilize, or grow their businesses. CDFIs are mission-driven lenders that focus on investing in communities and entrepreneurs that traditional financial institutions sometimes overlook.

Through its Small Business Lending Program, CU provides flexible loans ranging from $1,000 to $200,000, helping entrepreneurs invest in the tools and resources needed to move their businesses forward. Those loans can support a variety of needs, from purchasing equipment and covering operating expenses to fulfilling new contracts, expanding operations, or stocking inventory.

Businesses located in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas are eligible to apply.

For many rural entrepreneurs, access to capital can make the difference between putting a dream on hold and turning it into a sustainable business. CU’s Lending Team works directly with business owners to understand their goals and identify financing solutions that fit their situation.

In many cases, entrepreneurs also have the opportunity to work with CU’s Entrepreneurship Team, which provides guidance to help strengthen business planning and financial readiness, giving business owners a stronger foundation for long-term success. Entrepreneurs interested in learning more about financing opportunities can apply online or submit an inquiry.

Communities Unlimited also provides Small Farm Loans and Water & Wastewater Loans to support farmers and rural communities working to build stronger local economies. For more information, call 479-443-2700.
