On April 27th members of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and former Stax and Royal Studios musicians are collaorating to pay tribute to Isaac Hayes and other Stax artists in the form of The Hot Buttered Symphony.
The free event kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and features a discussion about the decades-old relationship between Memphis studios and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, stories about Isaac Hayes, and a performance by the MSO String Quartet performing their renditions of some of the label’s most popular hits.
The label has worked closely with the MSO since its early days, with the Symphony adding texture and depth to legendary tracks, such as “Theme from Shaft.”
This free and family-friendly event will be moderated by John Bass and Allie Johnson. It will take place at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music (926 E. McLemore).
