Now is the Time. Memphis is the Place.

Hi, I’m Cady Jones

Hi guys, I’m Cady, and yes, it’s pronounced exactly like Lindsay Lohan’s character from the 2004 box office hit Mean Girls

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s start with some fun facts, shall we?

For starters, I’m kind of the local crazy dog lady. I’ve got two dogs of my own who are the loves of my life, Foxey Lady and Gus Gus. I’m also a supporter of all things disco, and I’ve taken a solemn vow to bring it back in 2019. (Raiford’s, anyone?) My taste in music goes far beyond disco, however. I’ve been working part-time at a record store for years now, and I’ve learned to appreciate a little bit of everything. Other than that, I’m an avid reader, mostly classics, and have a love for all things relating to the Occult. The spookier the better.

At this time, I’m a 24-year-old journalism major at the University of Memphis. I’ve been writing for as long I can remember, and I’ve never wanted to do anything else. I fell in love with Diane Sawyer at an impressionable age, and it was quite literally “all she wrote” for me. However, it did take a while to find my path as a writer and it’s one I’m still traveling on to this day.

After it dawned on me that Good Morning America may not lay in the cards for me, I moved on to an interest in investigative journalism and hard news. Anything crime, scandal, or mystery related was my beat and if I’m being honest, so was the soundtrack to What’s New, Scooby Doo?

It was after all that that I stumbled upon the holy grail of journalism, feature writing. I was shocked that I could put my voice and my spin on things that I wanted to write about and people would actually want to read it. A whole new world opened up for me, and, so far, I haven’t looked back. The possibilities are endless, and, in a city like Memphis, I could never run out of things to write about.

That’s why I’m so happy to be a part of the Choose901 interns for the spring semester.

When I’m not at school or writing for Choose901, I’m usually at work slinging pies at Memphis Pizza Cafe. Other than that, you can catch me at Young Avenue Deli or The Hi Tone, two of my favorite places to be in Memphis.

I’m looking forward to seeing you guys around!
