Here’s how to celebrate your grad, Memphis style

It’s graduation season and you KNOW what that means—so how are you celebrating? Traditional graduation parties are fun and all, but we’re thinking this year calls for something a little more creative, and a lot more Memphis.

Dreaming of a night on the town with the besties? Awesome. Is an outdoor adventure more your cup of tea? That’s cool, too! Whatever suits your fancy, there are so many different ways to celebrate in the 901. Heck, grad or not, treat yourself for making it to summer break.

Here’s how to celebrate your grad, Memphis style:

Live it up at one of Memphis’s many summer festivals. If you’re looking to have a blast right here in the bluff city, this one’s for you. Your grad will love celebrating at some of the best events Memphis has to offer. There’s a long list of festivals happening throughout the summer, so slap on some sunscreen and get to it!

Enjoy a staycation in downtown Memphis. You don’t have to go far to live it up like you’re on vacation. From outdoor adventure to local eats and ball games—Memphis’s downtown has it all. Your grad will feel like they’re having the getaway of a lifetime, without even leaving the 901.

Terra Cotta: 3032 Summer Ave.

Give a gift that keeps on growing. Gifts—we all love ‘em for all the celebrations, and graduation isn’t any different. Give a gift that keeps on growing from Terra Cotta, a plant shop based right here in Memphis! Plus, you’ll be supporting a local Black-owned business. It’s a win-win!

Give back to the city that built you. Big transitions are the perfect time to send gratitude to the people and places that shaped us. And what better way to say thank you than giving back alongside your grad? Whether it’s donating to a favorite after-school program, volunteering at a local nonprofit, or investing your life in a longer-term program—Memphis is full of ways to give back!

Invest in the graduates to come. Big accomplishments like graduation are always cause for celebration—and also for reflection. What resources helped make this possible? Resources like great teachers, books to read, and trusted mentors make all the difference. Sadly, these are sometimes hard to come by for many of our Memphis students. Celebrate your accomplishment by investing in the graduates to come by donating books & learning resources to help local learners go the distance this summer.
