Good Times at Beale Street Music Festival 2018

Well, it’s finally May again! And you know what that means, right?? It’s festival season in Memphis! I thankfully moved down here around this time last year, so this was my second time around the block when it came to these festivals. Needless to say, I was a little more experienced in our adventures this year. This past weekend was Beale Street Music Fest, and let me tell you, it was one for the books!

With a three-day pass that only cost me $125, this is one of those no brainer festivals if you live in the surrounding area. Although the real hidden costs are those $6 beers and the countless hours you spend in lines that are the one true consistent thing in the festival. The line up was jam packed, and I even had a friend come in town for the weekend so we could hit all three days.

What I really love about this festival is the fact that it is right in the heart of downtown on the river at Tom Lee Park. The views are beautiful as the sun is setting, and thankfully there wasn’t even much rain to be had. Okay, maybe there was a decent bit, but not nearly enough to ruin someone’s day….unless they mistakenly stepped ankle deep into a mud pit and bust it but even so, the music that was being provided could lift anyone’s spirit.

I thought that this year’s line up was fairly good. Last year did seem a little better but who am I to complain. Friday night we saw Third Eye Blind and Alanis Morissette, Saturday night we saw Franz Ferdinand, Vance Joy, Ludacris, and Logic. Finally, Sunday we closed with Misterwives, Juicy J, Post Malone, and Odesza! Whew, as you can tell we really wanted to get our money’s worth! Overall, I’d say my favorite day was Sunday because those artists really came to play. The set, the energy, the vibe, just everything was perfect!

It was painfully obvious that come Monday, I was on the struggle bus. My coworkers could all tell that me and along with a whole lot of other Memphians were hoping that the Monday after BSMF should be a holiday. Alas, we’re not that lucky. Anyway, it was great to get out and enjoy some beautiful weather and some amazing music. Thanks again BSMF! Can’t wait to see what you guys have in store next year!
