Global Café Just Won a Community Impact Award & Memphis Couldn’t Be More Here for It

If you’ve ever walked through the doors of Global Café at Crosstown Concourse and left feeling like you experienced something bigger than a meal, you already know. This place isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a movement.

And now, it’s officially award-winning.

Global Café recently earned a Community Impact Award, and honestly? It’s long overdue. The recognition honors what so many Memphians have felt for years: that this spot in the heart of Crosstown Concourse is doing something truly special for our city.

Here’s what makes Global Café different. It’s an employment social enterprise, meaning every dish you order is directly tied to economically empowering immigrants and refugees right here in the 901. We’re talking real jobs, real opportunity, and real dignity for people who came to Memphis and are now feeding it, literally. The menu is made-from-scratch, authentic world food from fresh ingredients, and it all comes out of one incredible kitchen. Venezuelan empanadas. Sudanese stews. Mexican classics. All under one roof.

The restaurant has brought together immigrants and refugees who share food from their home countries, creating a space where people from all backgrounds can connect, learn about different cultures, and experience the stories behind the food.

That’s the magic of Global Café. You’re not just eating, you’re connecting. And when Memphis shows up for businesses built on inclusion and opportunity, the whole city wins.

Earlier this year, when icy conditions swept through Memphis, Global Café banded together to cook and serve hot meals for neighbors in need. In just three days, the team prepared and distributed nearly 700 meals, partnering with Second Chance Kitchen to deliver to shelters across the city. That’s not a restaurant. That’s a neighbor.

Owner and CEO Sabine Langer was also selected to join employment social enterprise leaders from across the U.S. in the REDF Accelerator program, a national initiative that invests in businesses creating jobs for people breaking through employment barriers. Memphis is on the map.

This Community Impact Award is more than a plaque on the wall. It’s a reminder that when we support businesses rooted in dignity and purpose, our city grows stronger. So the next time you’re at Crosstown Concourse, do yourself a favor; walk in, try something new, and know that your lunch is making a difference.

Global Café. Authentic world food. Real Memphis impact.
