Building Community Through Storytelling: The Like You Film Club

Memphis has a way of pushing people to dream something up and then daring them to make it real. That’s exactly what Noah Glenn has done with the launch of the Like You Film Club.

A man with curly brown hair, a beard, and glasses smiles at the camera against a solid teal background, radiating the creative energy of Choose901 and the passion found in Like You Film Club.

Noah’s a filmmaker, a dad, A Choose901 OG, and a longtime Memphian who believes deeply in the power of storytelling.

As a filmmaker, I know how stories shape how we see ourselves and the world. There’s a magic to seeing great stories on screen. And as a dad, I know how hard the world can be for kids. I believe connecting kids with great stories helps them discover their place in the world, and gives them tools to navigate difficult feelings, difficult situations.”

Noah Glenn films a seated child in a grassy yard near a white picket fence, capturing the scene for Like You Film Club with camera equipment and a microphone attached.

That belief first led him to start Like You: Mindfulness for Kids, a podcast that’s reached families all over the world. Then came a short film, The Devil Will Run, that carried him to children’s festivals across the country.

"I saw how much fun families were having at these festivals, and I knew I wanted to bring that to Memphis. After a few years of sponsoring occasional family screenings with Indie Memphis, I decided it was time to build something from the ground up, and Like You Film Club was born.”

The Like You Film Club is stepping onto the scene with a vision: to give Memphis families a space where stories spark connection and community. From monthly screenings to hands-on workshops, it’s building momentum toward its first big event—the inaugural Like You Children’s Film Festival.

NOAH's journey in the 901

Noah isn’t new to sparking ideas in this city. He was part of the original Choose901 launch team back in 2012, helping shape its creative voice before starting his own studio, Perpetual Motion. Looking back, he says Memphis gave him exactly what he needed to keep creating.

"My favorite part of the job was producing weekly videos for Choose901. It meant every week I was meeting and interviewing some of Memphis’ most interesting people—artists, teachers, entrepreneurs, musicians—people with lots of passion and very big dreams. The biggest thing I learned from this was that if you have an idea for something you want to exist in the world, Memphis is one of the best places to make it a reality...”

That same lesson is what fuels Like You Film Club: if the space you wish existed isn’t here yet, you can build it.

WHAT'S ON THE HORIZON?

This fall, Like You Film Club will host its first big event: the Like You Children’s Film Festival at the MoSH Pink Palace, November 22–23. Expect films from around the world, workshops with local filmmakers, and even visits from renown authors!

Leading up to it, the club will host monthly family screenings—CatVideoFest on September 6 and Where the Wild Things Are on October 25—both Saturday mornings at the Pink Palace Giant Screen Theater.

But it’s more than a movie ticket.

"There are few things as powerful as seeing yourself in a character on screen. In that moment, you feel seen, understood—you know you’re not alone in your feelings, your struggles, your worries. So I want every young Memphian to have a chance to see themselves reflected on screen."

The Like You Film Club is one more reminder of what’s possible here: Memphis is a city where an idea doesn’t have to stay an idea. If you want a space for connection, creativity, or community—you can build it.
