Tucked away on one of Memphis’ most eclectic streets, Broad Avenue, in the historic Binghampton community, Broadway Pizza hasn’t had a customer leave dissatisfied since its opening in 1977. Transporting diners to Memphis’ rock ‘n’ roll day, Broadway’s interior consists of nothing but Elvis memorabilia. Not only are there several Elvis autographs and a variation of velvet Elvis’, but the King’s face even consumes the menus front page. Local Memphis legend says it was his favorite restaurant. If the King approved, Choose901 found it vital to check it!
Unlike the typical pizza joint, Broadway Pizza offers an extensive menu aside from its delicious pizza pies. Serving daily specials, Broadway caters to any palate. On the day we visited, the special was catfish and spaghetti. Amazed at such a weird combination, we had to order it. Confused at how catfish could taste just like it was fried in the backyard, there wasn’t one morsel left on the plate.
Even though the catfish and spaghetti was more than enough to feed most of the table, we could not resist divulging into Broadway’s specialty pizzas. Endeavoring to try recommendations, we opted for a large taco pizza and small vegetarian. Each pizza is served with a dish of fresh green olives, juicy peperoncinis, grated parmesan, and red pepper. The small would have fed us for days, needless to say we left with to-go boxes. The pizza was piled high with toppings, with a layer of slightly browned cheese, and succulent crust. It’s no wonder it was the preferred eatery of a king.
All pizzas were affordably priced, specials have huge servings all under $10, and they offer $6 pitchers of beer. Broadway has a main dining room, accompanied by a banquet room available for renting. They accommodate cyclists, and ask drivers not to park in the bike lanes. There is also a vintage Pac-Man game, race car stimulator, and a claw, so it is crucial to remember to bring in your spare change to get in on the action! Broadway Pizza grants locals a tasty option for food; and a truly unique Memphis experience.
