This week for Foodie Friday, I had the opportunity to check out The Cake Gallery Baketique. This new downtown business combines a few of the owners’ favorite things: cake, art, and a boutique.
Necole, originally from a rural Mississippi town, has been in Memphis for 15 years. She has a passion for Memphis, specifically downtown. She shared her love for the downtown scene being a key reason why she wanted to open in the heart of downtown. Currently they feature various special baked goods each day, display the art work of her partner, and are selling a variety of fun items you can pick up in their store. Necole mentioned she wants to make new items every week for customers to try which they might not have had before. She wants to eventually feature local artists and artisans in her store.
Let’s talk about cake. I asked Nicole if I could only choose one thing what I should try. She highly recommended their red velvet cake. “It’s our signature,” she stated, “But if you’re a chocolate lover you have to go with our chocolate, chocolate, chocolate cake. Made from scratch”. Being the huge chocolate fan that I am, I immediately asked for it.
Yep. Chocolate was a great choice. The cake was incredibly moist and rich. I told Necole it was going to be a problem that I live within walking distance of the Cake Gallery Baketique. The cake was very sweet but still had a great, fresh, chocolate flavor. I couldn’t eat it all at once (which was probably good since the slice was HUGE). I want to go back and try their signature red velvet, ‘cake ball truffles’, and their ‘perfect chocolate chip cookies’.
Before I left, Necole asked for my birthday and email. Could it mean a tasty treat for me in August? I sure hope so. The Cake Gallery Baketique is open Monday-Saturday for your enjoyment. Check it out!
