A benefit for Rachel Folk, who is currently battling Stage IV-B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, will be held at Neil’s Music Room on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 7:00pm-12:00am.
The benefit will include a cash bar and live music all night, featuring local band Hi Electric and other artists. There will be a raffle, including top shelf liquor provided by Buster’s Liquors, Malco movie passes, cases of beer, free dental exam, B-12 shots, and gift cards to local businesses such as Sports Clips, Huey’s, Folk’s Folly, Half Shell, TJ Mulligans, Memphis Pizza Café, Young Avenue Deli, Local Gastropub, Soul Fish Café, and Swanky’s Taco Shop.
In addition, Patrick Burfield, a friend and manager of Folk, will be shaving his head on stage between 8:30pm and 9:00pm and donating all hair to the nonprofit Pantene Beautiful Locks. Burfield has not cut his hair in over ten years, and it is currently grown to his waist.
The cover is fee is a minimum $10.00 donation at the door. All proceeds, including all money from the raffle, will be donated directly to Rachel’s medical expenses.
In November 2012, Folk received the dianosis of Stage IV-B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After over a year of chemotherapy, radiation, and remissions, the cancer has returned a 3rd time. Rachel has now completed 3 rounds of ICE chemotherapy, each round requiring a three day hospital stay. This treatment will now be followed by an even more rigorous procedure, BEAM chemotherapy. Rachel is only 25 years old. Folk is a server at Huey’s Southwind, but has been able to work very little since her cancer has spread. Her coworkers have put together this benefit to help cover the cost of her medical expenses.
Come out and support Rachel on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 7:00pm-12:00am.
