Fall into service with 6 volunteer opportunities this October

Leaves are turning, pumpkins are on porches, and Memphis is buzzing with fall festivals and spooky fun. 🎃 October is the perfect time to give back, whether you’re soaking up live music, helping families, or leaning into all things festive.

👇 Here are six ways to serve with purpose this month while getting into the fall spirit.

Mempho Music Festival

Friday, October 3 through Sunday, October 5 | Multiple Shifts Available

There’s nothing like Memphis in the fall, and Mempho Music Festival takes it to another level. Held at Radians Amphitheater, this three-day festival blends incredible live music with the natural beauty of Memphis Botanic Garden. Volunteers will keep the energy going by helping guests, supporting staff, and ensuring things run smoothly behind the scenes. Sign up for a shift then soak up the sounds of some of music’s biggest names right here in the 901.

Fall Plant Sale Help at the Lichterman Nature Center

Saturday, October 4 | Multiple Shifts Available

For those who love crisp days and fresh soil, this is your chance to dig in. Lichterman Nature Center’s Fall Plant Sale brings together gardeners and plant lovers from all over Memphis, and volunteers can make it bloom. You’ll help guests choose their plants, load cars, and make sure everything runs seamlessly.

Reharvest Memphis 2025

Thursday, October 9 | Multiple Shifts Available

What if you could fight food waste while enjoying one of the city’s most creative foodie nights? At Project Green Fork’s Reharvest Memphis, local chefs whip up small plates using surplus and donated ingredients, transforming them into innovative dishes. Volunteers get free admission and can enjoy the celebration after their shift.

Feast For Friends Spooky Movie Night

Monday, October 13 | 3:30 – 7 p.m.

Halloween season isn’t complete without costumes, candy, and a spooky movie or two. At Feast For Friends’ Spooky Movie Night, volunteers will help create a welcoming, festive atmosphere while serving dinner and joining guests for a screening of Hubie Halloween. This is the perfect way to combine your love of Halloween fun with giving back to our neighbors.

Memphis Legends Event With Homes for Hearts

Saturday, October 18 | Multiple Shifts Available

The Memphis Legends Event brings together music, art, cocktails, and a costume contest, all to benefit Homes for Hearts and their mission of building tiny homes for people experiencing homelessness. Volunteers help with check-in, wristbands, parking, and more. Shifts are short, and once you’re done, you get to enjoy the rest of the party!

“Frankenstein” Guest Support at Germantown Community Theatre

Thursday through Saturday, October 23 – November 1 | 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Step into the spotlight behind the scenes—become an usher for FRANKENSTEIN at GCT this October! Whether you’re greeting guests, helping at concessions, or guiding patrons to their seats, you’ll play a vital role in creating a magical night at the theatre. Sign up for one or more shifts, enjoy the show for free when seats are available, and be part of bringing this spooky classic to life for our community!

Fall is more than pumpkin patches and Halloween candy – it’s a season to give back. đŸ€Č
