Experiencing a concert at the historic Overton Park Shell is one of the most immersive ways to enjoy live music in Memphis—and when the Big K.R.I.T. took the stage, it became truly unforgettable.

The sounds from the amphitheater roared before we even made it up the hill. At that point, we knew we were in for a night to remember. The bright lights of the Shell soon came into view, where the DJ was warming up the stage and fans were hustling to claim their spots. Blankets, towels, lawn chairs, and food-truck bites were all laid out as we waited with excitement. Like children ready to eat- we knew we’d be fed this night.

BIG K.R.I.T. TURNS THE SHELL INTO A FAMILY REUNION

Big K.R.I.T., who proudly calls himself Memphis’ “country cousin,” is rooted just down the road from the 901. Born and raised in Meridian, Mississippi, he’s known for his hard-hitting lyricism, southern flavor, and pride in those Mississippi roots. His connection to Memphis runs deep, and calling himself our country cousin couldn’t be more fitting. This performance felt like a family reunion (with the cousins you actually like).

The concert started with an star-studed performance from Dame Mufasa- a Memphis talented artist from Memphis who set the mood for an incredible lit the fire to the crowd and set the mood for an incredible headliner.

From the moment Big K.R.I.T. stepped on stage, the crowd was captivated. In the spirit of family, he invited fans closer to the stage, and together we sang along to both new and classic hits. We shouted, we bounced, we screamed—and when K.R.I.T. asked us to go louder, we raised our voices and our hands without hesitation.

No notes needed—just a standing ovation and plenty of “whoop whoop” for an incredible night at the Shell!.
