Wattstax Film Screening at Orange Mound Tower

FREE outdoor showing of the classic 1973 concert film featuring Isaac Hayes, the Staple Singers, the Bar-Kays, and more Stax artists. Bring lawn chairs to enjoy the show; food trucks will be on hand. DJ Bizzle Bluebland will play Memphis classics before the film starts. Limited parking available on the tower grounds, with more across the street in the Lamar-Airways Shopping Center. Presented by Memphis Record Pressing in partnership with Indie Memphis, TONE Memphis, Stax Museum, and WYXR.

Wattstax is the 1973 documentary film about the Afro-American Woodstock concert held in Los Angeles seven years after the Watts riots. Director Mel Stuart mixes footage from the concert with footage of the living conditions in the current day Watts neighborhood. The film won the Golden Globe for Best Documentary Film.
