About the program:
Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo and Juliet” is a well-known orchestral work that captures the tragic and romantic essence of Shakespeare’s play. The piece is filled with lush melodies, passionate themes, and dramatic musical gestures that reflect the intense emotions experienced by the star-crossed lovers. Tchaikovsky masterfully depicts the tension, longing, and eventual tragedy through his rich orchestration and evocative melodies.
Bernstein’s “Symphonic Dances from West Side Story” is a symphonic suite derived from his iconic musical theater work. It combines elements of jazz, Latin rhythms, and classical music in a contemporary setting. The symphonic dances encapsulate the energy, conflict, and love found within the story of rival gangs in New York City. Bernstein’s ability to seamlessly blend different genres and capture the vibrant atmosphere of the narrative is a testament to his melodic and dramatic prowess.ADMISSION: $20
