The Resilience: Combatting Police Violence through Policy and Public Safety

About The Resilience

The fourth and final convening, “The Resilience: Combatting Police Violence through Policy and Public Safety,” is a symposium that will provide attendees with strategies and solutions to combat police violence through the power of policy and community-led, trauma-informed alternatives to traditional public safety methods that reduce police violence.

The Reckoning, The Resolve, The Restoration, and The Resilience” is a four-part national convening the National Civil Rights Museum designed to bring together thought leaders, policymakers, surviving families, and activists to examine the historical connections of police violence and find solutions to address injustices that plague our communities.

In March 2023, we gathered for the first convening, “The Reckoning: Community Policing and Accountability” to pursue justice for victims like Tyre Nichols with actionable steps to stop police violence that has terrorized our communities. In June, we held the second convening, “The Resolve: Eliminating Systemic Racism and Toxic Cultures” to explore how structural racism has influenced toxic cultures that negatively impact law enforcement and produce bias-based policing strategies. The third convening “The Restoration: Community Healing for Solutions to Police Violence” was held in September to discuss the need for collective healing among victims of police brutality, law enforcement, and the communities they serve.
