Memphis, TN – The Mid-South Cartoonists Association presents the MSCA Mini-Con “Festival of Cartoon Art” on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from Noon – 4pm in the Rehearsal Hall of Germantown Community Theater, located at 3037 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Germantown, TN 38138.  This family-friendly event is free to attend.

“Continuing the promotion of cartoon as art, our friends at the Germantown Community Theater are hosting a mini-convention of sorts for the MSCA,” said Kevin Williams, President of the group.

This event will also be a closing reception for the wildly popular MSCA art show “Drawing Blood” (which runs alongside the hugely successful presentation of “Dracula: The Bloody Truth” at Germantown Community Theater (GCT) through November 12).

Art show artists who will be in attendance are Greg Cravens, Courtney Dunn, Charlie Forrester, Katie Jones, Dale Martin, Katherine Modlin, Lin Workman, and Kevin Williams.  MSCA member Antonio Johnson and GCT friend Connie Lampen will also be in attendance.

Since 1972, the non-profit Germantown Community Theater has produced many exciting theatrical productions, and now offer Sensory Friendly performances.  Besides high quality entertainment, GCT offers educational opportunities for Midsouth families nurturing creative expression and artistic growth.  Their mission is to entertain, educate, engage, and enrich the community through theatrical programming.  You can learn more about events and get involved at gctcomplay.org.

Joining the MSCA is as simple as showing up and participating.  For more information, please visit the MSCA at midsouthcartoonists.org

ABOUT The MSCA

On Saturday, March 28, 1987, a small group of professional cartoonists came together to form The Memphis Cartoonists Group.  By December of that year, for the third meeting and first official newsletter, the name had become The Mid-South Cartoonist Association (with the word ‘Cartoonist’ becoming plural in 2000).

Since its origins, the group has put its creative strengths behind various cartooning classes, appearances, conventions, fundraisers, art shows, anthology comics/zines, monthly drawing nights, a podcast hosted by Lin Workman, and more.

Our founders went on to start clubs in other states and begin careers in syndicated comics, many working for comic book publishers Marvel, DC Comics, Image, IDW, and others, as well as self-publishing their own creator-owned projects.  Our members also participate in various art forms such as fine art paintings, pottery and sculpture, textiles, photography, graphic design, and other creative endeavors.
