Three young girls sit at a table on Super Saturday, making beaded crafts with colorful materials and supplies inspired by textile design spread out in front of them.

Super Saturday – Kalamkari Textile Design

Celebrate the work of Suchitra Mattai and learn about the art of Kalamkari – an ancient textile painting art form from Andhra Pradesh, India, known for its intricate hand-painted or block-printed designs. This week’s Super Saturday is in collaboration with Overton Park Conservancy and will be held in the formal gardens. After you create your Kalamkari design, make sure to check out Suchitra Mattai’s installation in your art museum’s Rotunda.

Super Saturday takes place every week during the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art free hours from 10a-12p. Guests can enjoy drop in art making and curated gallery guides to give them a closer look at the art on view. All ages are welcome! Please register in advance.
