Impressionist painting of a sunlit street lined with colorful houses and lush flowering vines under a blue sky, featured in the Steve Nelson Exhibition.

Steve Nelson Exhibition

September 1-30, 2025
On view in Fratelli’s Cafe Monday-Saturday from 11 am-2 pm

“Steve’s interest in art began in elementary school, copying cartoons from newspapers. He majored in Art at Beloit College in the late 50s/early 60s but found the professors were more interested in ‘doing their own thing’ than teaching. He wisely decided art probably would not be a sustainable career for him and chose to wait for retirement years to give it a try.

He is now 18 years into painting and having a ball exploring a wide variety of styles and subjects. He has studied acrylic painting with Marilyn Wannamaker and Judy Nocifora at the Memphis Botanic Garden. His style is loose and impressionistic scene to feel its majesty, its serenity, its contrast, or its energy.

His work has been exhibited at the Memphis Botanic Garden, the Salvation Army Kroc Center, Trezevant Manor, the Jewish Home, Germantown Library, and the Woman’s Exchange. Recently he was invited to exhibit his art at the prestigious 2024 St. George’s Independent School Art Fair. He is a member of the Memphis Germantown Art League and has been juried into several of their shows.”

The event is finished.
