Four men from Scotland sit in a row holding musical instruments, including a guitar and two violins, in a warmly lit room with patterned curtains—a cozy scene fitting for Cantrip's folk sessions.

Scotland’s Cantrip

Cantrip is an Old Scots word meaning a charm, magic spell, or piece of mischief, and it aptly describes the unexpected twists and turns this celebrated, Edinburgh ensemble’s music and performance take. Swirling border pipes, raging fiddle, thunderous guitar, and three rich voices blend to create a sound energetic enough to tear the roof off. Echoes of traditional music from the 1960s and 1970s can be heard, but the years have slowly infused its music with the sounds of funk, metal, bluegrass, swing, and even klezmer.

This performance is in honor and in memory of Robert L. Campbell, the “Duke of Earle,” host of the weekly local radio show Strands of the Celtic Knot for over 30 years.

The event is finished.
