S.O.S. Community Listening Session

When the state tried to take over our schools, parents, students, educators, faith leaders, and community organizers united to stop the state’s harmful takeover bill, which stalled in committee thanks to our collective action.

But the fight isn’t over. Lawmakers could revive the bill as early as January 2026 without fixing the real issues: underfunded classrooms, crumbling buildings, and staff shortages. Instead of investing in solutions, they’re setting the stage for more privatization and voucher schemes that threaten public education.

This takeover attempt was never about helping kids; it was a distraction from decades of disinvestment.
