Refined Palettes: Art and Wine Pairing
If there’s one world that’s more intimidating that fine art, it might be that of fine wine. Between all the misinformation, marketing, and snobbery, it can often feel like a world that is impenetrable and inaccessible. But just like you don’t have to know everything about art to enjoy a great painting, you don’t have to know everything about wine to enjoy a really special glass. We think the best way to learn is to jump in the deep end, and we’ve planned something special to help you do just that! Join us for a guided tasting of three wines paired with three works of art selected by Jake Smith – a local sommelier with a passion for art history – as we learn more about and discuss the unique and surprising ways the worlds of wine and art intersect.
Jake Smith is a Memphis-based sommelier with professional certifications from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, the Society of Wine Educators, and the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas. Jake is also a graduate cum laude from Rhodes College with a degree in Art History. This unique background has given him a passion for demystifying challenging subject matter and familiarizing audiences with some of the more obscure corners of cultural studies.
