Reception and Artist Talk: Radical Jewelry Makeover

In an age of growing concerns about the environment, supply chains, and ethical consumption, Ethical Metalsmiths’ Radical Jewelry Makeover (RJM) raises awareness about the interconnectivity between mining, the metal arts, activism, and collaboration. Radical Jewelry Makeover brings together jewelers working together to examine mining issues while making innovative jewelry from recycled sources. Volunteer “miners,” “smelters,” “refiners,” and metalsmiths join forces to recycle and reuse donated jewelry to create unique, innovative, handmade jewelry. Led by co-directors Susie Ganch and Kathleen Kennedy, RJM helps viewers to reconsider consumption and the impact of “reduce, reuse, recycle” in their own lives. 

​The Metal Museum will be exhibiting over 70 works by over 25 different artists that unleash their creativity to breathe new life into each item creating stunning pieces that embody both art and social consciousness. Through collaboration with artists and jewelry professionals, “Radical Jewelry Makeover” highlights the potential for social change and the significance of responsible sourcing
