Preservation Posse Tour: Phillips Cottage at Elmwood Cemetery

Elmwood Cemetery’s Phillips Cottage, now home to Elmwood’s Visitor Center and offices, was originally built in 1866. In 1902, it was expanded with a charming parlor, a brick vault, and a welcoming front porch. Today, it stands as the only known example of Victorian Carpenter Gothic architecture in Memphis, making it a rare architectural treasure. Recognized for its cultural and historical significance, the Phillips Cottage was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 22, 1978.
