Meng Cheng Collective: Kai Pa Ti
kai pa ti: (verb) to throw a party or potluck
We’re throwing a party and you’re invited!
Join the MengCheng 梦城团 Collective as we kick off our week-long exhibition Kai Pa Ti with a night of food and fun! We’ll be showcasing collective artworks made during our two month long Crosstown Arts residency that were inspired by conversations from our weekly potlucks. We hope you come and savor the delicious memories that we’ve made.
Outside of this event, the exhibition will be viewable during our gallery hours July 23-29, 3-7PM or by appointment. Appointments can be made by emailing mengcheng.tn@gmail.com.
What is MengCheng 梦城团 Collective?
As artists and makers who grew up in Memphis, Thandi Cai, Neena Wang, Yidan Zeng, and LiLi Nacht formed this collective to challenge the way our cultural histories have been gathered, disseminated, or made invisible.
MengCheng 梦城 “City of Dreams” is inspired by the Chinese phonetic name for Memphis, or mèng fēi sī. The MengCheng 梦城团 Collective is an invitation into intergenerational dialogue, communal healing, and empowerment by sharing the Chinese diasporic experience of living in the American South.
