Hand Building with Wax: Foundry Class
This two day class focuses on hand building and casting techniques to create cast metal sculpture. By sculpting wax by hand using carving tools, you will make an original piece of art that will be molded using resin-bonded sand by the end of the first day. The wax original will then be melted out overnight. The final mold will be poured in aluminum on the second day.
Objectives for this workshop include one completed wax sculpture made on Saturday that will be molded in sand that afternoon. Some ideas for hand building could include animals, abstract forms, a figurine, or something meaningful to you. Coming to class with an idea of what you would like to create will be helpful but not necessary. Please limit size to no more than 8” in any direction. No previous experience required. Ages 15 and up are welcome.
