Forum: Who is running for the Memphis Shelby County Schools board?

Get to know candidates running for the Memphis-Shelby County Schools board before the August elections. Chalkbeat, MICAH, and partners are hosting a forum for candidates on July 21. Students and Chalkbeat journalists will ask candidates about their stances on how Tennessee’s largest school district should help children recover from pandemic learning loss, how the board could create safer, more equitable school environments, and how to address millions of dollars of deferred maintenance and aging school buildings, among other issues.

This is a free event, but please RSVP to let us know you are coming. Food will be provided. Childcare will be provided, and you can sign up for it in the registration form. We will also be live streaming the event as a virtual option. Need translation services? Please let us know in the registration form.

When: July 21, 6-8 p.m.

Where:

  • In-person at Idlewild Presbyterian Church, 1750 Union Ave, Memphis, TN 38104
  • Virtually on Facebook Live

Need to figure out what district you live in? Go here. Want to weigh in on what we should ask the candidates? Let us know here.
