ABOUT THE BOOK:
The purpose of this book is to provide parents of young aspiring creatives with the tools, resources, and knowledge needed to help their child navigate the music industry successfully. As a music manager with years of experience managing my son’s music career, this book serves as a guide for other parents looking to develop their child’s brand, build their music catalog, promote their music, and navigate the legal and financial aspects of the industry. This book includes tips for understanding the music industry, developing a strong brand, building a music catalog, promoting music effectively, and navigating the challenges of the industry as a parent. Lastly, this book shares personal stories from the author as he manages family dynamics and balances between parent and manager. A must read.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Ernest D. Strickland is the President & CEO of the Black Business Association of Memphis. Ernest has led a multitude of successful economic and workforce development projects throughout his career. Strickland comes to the BBA after a stellar 15-year career with the Greater Memphis Chamber. In his last role at the chamber, Ernest served as SVP of Workforce. He launched Memphis’ community-wide workforce development initiative, Upskill 901 – a program aimed at upskilling 10,000 individuals over a three-year timeframe. Other positions include serving as the Chamber VP of International, and Director of Economic Development. Other positions include partnering with his musically gifted son to launch SC World, a music management and services firm, Previously, Ernest owned and managed Investors First Realty. In this capacity, his responsibilities included managing cash flow, driving property acquisitions and sales, and serving as property manager for the firm’s portfolio of real estate owned. Ernest is passionate about growing the city and he enjoys investing in his community through civic duties such as, previously serving as Chairman of the W.E.B. DuBois Charter School Consortium, Board member of The Consortium MMT, and former New Memphis Institute Board of Trustee. Also, he is Past Chairman of the Downtown Memphis Commission, former board member of Memphis World Trade Club and Leadership Memphis board of director. Currently, Ernest serves on the Greater Memphis Local Workforce Development Board and Memphis In May International Festival Board of Directors. Ernest holds a bachelor’s degree in Professional Studies from University of Memphis and a master’s degree from Bethel University’s Executive MBA program.
