ABOUT THE BOOK:
The West Tennessee Educational Congress (WTEC) was long a cornerstone of educational progress for African Americans in Memphis and Rural Shelby County. The WTEC brought together public school educators, administrators, and community leaders to explore, discuss, and implement new strategies for improving education. In For Every Child, An Equal Chance: The History, People, and Rosenwald Schools of the West Tennessee Educational Congress in Memphis and Rural Shelby County – 1902-1966, readers are invited to discover the rich history and lasting impact of this influential organization. From its early beginnings to its prominence as a leading educator association in the South, this book chronicles the Congress’s evolution and highlights its pivotal role in shaping educational policies, practices, and community engagement throughout Shelby County. By taking an in-depth look at the schools and people of the schools in Memphis and Rural Shelby County, this book provides a comprehensive exploration of how the Congress fostered collaboration and celebrated academic achievement.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Dr. Wynn Earle, Jr. is a native Memphian employed by the Memphis Shelby County School District as the principal of Kingsbury Elementary School. He is a graduate of Overton High School, the University of Memphis, and Union University, where he earned a Doctor of Education Degree in Instructional Leadership. In 2022, Earle authored the book Early African American Schools in Memphis. He is an avid reader of most things Memphis and a collector of vintage and rare books, photographs, and ephemera documenting academic life for African Americans locally and nationally.
