Celebrating its 132-year anniversary, the historic Cossitt building stands proudly with its red brick facade, tall central tower, and arched windows, all surrounded by lush trees and classic lamp posts.

Cossitt’s 132 Year Anniversary

132 years ago, the Cossitt library opened as the first public library in the city of Memphis thanks to Frederick Cossitt. More than a century and a quarter later, that has grown into Memphis Public Libraries with 18 open branches and counting. Come join us in celebrating the history of Cossitt and the future of libraries and public spaces.
